What to Do if Your Florida License is Suspended?

For some drivers, repeated traffic violations and irresponsible driving will lead to the worst consequence of all – a suspended license. Florida drivers have a convenient option, however, that would allow them to drive to designated areas while working to reinstate their permanent driving privileges. This temporary license is called the Florida hardship license, and it has proven to be a huge help for drivers in a tough situation.

What is the Florida Hardship License?

The hardship license is a temporary license for Florida drivers that lets them drive to and from specified locations, such as their job or their school. While not an official driver's license, the hardship license makes the experience of having a suspended license in Florida less debilitating. Eligible drivers have had their license suspended or revoked, or have accrued 12 points on their license in a period of 12 months. Anyone with a revoked license will also need to complete a Florida 12 hour traffic school in order to obtain the hardship license and regain their full driving privileges and a permanent license.

Taking a 12 Hour Traffic School in Florida

There are a couple different options for drivers looking to take a 12 hour traffic school. There are classroom courses which require the student to meet with other traffic offenders and an instructor. There are also self-paced online courses which allow the student to complete the course from home. Some of these online courses will offer the hardship license as a combo with the course. Once the driver enrolls in their traffic school, they can bring their enrollment certificate along with their driving record to the Florida DMV and obtain a hardship license. Then all they need to do is complete the 12 hour traffic school and they'll be on their way toward a permanent license once again.

Advantages of a Temporary License

In these ever-increasing days of vast mobility, it is virtually impossible to get anything done without a vehicle. People can't work or go to school without being able to drive there. A temporary hardship license, though restricted, will ease some of the unforgiving difficulty that comes along with losing a driver's license. One can still attend classes, go to work, and make the money they'll need to pay for the traffic school they're required to attend. Life can go on as normally as possible, until that permanent license is back in their hands.
